Mandate
Project Ponytail is a group that manages and runs third party fundraising events to raise money for deserving, not for profit organizations. Our mandate is to help improve the quality of life of those suffering from cancer related illnesses through our fundraising efforts.
Raison D’être
In 2000, my mother succumbed to her third bout of cancer. It has been a long road for me to get from a place of anger to “how can I give something back”.
When I first started Project Ponytail over two years ago, my focus was exclusively on raising money for cancer research. My purpose was growing a ponytail and encouraging others to do the same so that we could donate our hair together, to be made into a wig for someone who was going through chemotherapy.
During the course of this past year, and with my new involvement in the fundraising process, I came to realize that I could not limit myself solely to raising funds for cancer research that would help people 20 years down the road. I needed to help people who are fighting their war against cancer right now!
Cancer research will always be an important cause to the Project Ponytail Group, but I decided our mandate should be simply this; help improve the quality of life of those suffering from cancer related illnesses through fundraising. We do this by creating and hosting events that people will enjoy, and by giving those funds to deserving, not for profit organizations. We believe the first word in fundraising should always be ‘fun’, and that the essence should always be caring.
Machines, instruments and medications are all important aspects in the fight to survive cancer, but dignity and compassion are the two most important factors in ensuring that quality of life is maintained during that battle.
